Boots & Footwear

Lowa Army Pro GTX:

As I am a military man I am used to walk on heavy army boots.
And for over 21 years I am walking and working on Original Bata Dutch Army boots.
It takes ages to break them down to comfort level, but once done they walk great..

And I was determined that I also would walk the Coast 2 Coast with those same type of boots. But last winter wen walking true the snow. I got wet and cold feet after 2 hours. It started me thinking.
Are there better boots available? what if it snows in the lake district?
Al kind of questions i never asked myself because i was happy with my boots for so many years and walked many miles with the Bata boots and never go a blister or other foot problems.

So I done some research, and found the best shoes ever called the Lowa Tibet GTX Many hill walkers and backpackers where absolutely stunned by the comfort and performance of the Lowa Tibet

So there I went to my favourite outdoor store called zwerkei and ready to buy the boot of my choice. So I made a few trips on the indoor stony path to test those Lowa Tibets out and they where great.
But! The colors! not black but blue and guess what I hate blue So the guy in the store showed me almost the same boot as the Tibet but then the army version of it. And my choice was made after a hour on the rocky path with a rucksack.

And so it came to pass that I now walk on Lowa Army Pro GTX boots
Gore text lined, Black Leather,Very high and waterproof.
No cold feet after a 4 hour walk in the snow. And i even stood in a puddle of cold water for a hour just to be sure they are waterproof.
And they are 10 times more comfortable on hard undergrounds so less hammering on my feet.

A nice instruction video about the boot.

X-Socks:

Good socks are a must have when commencing on a long walk. The always returning problem with me is that most socks are not sturdy enough to keep my toes on the inside of the socks and after just a short wearing period my toes are breathing the fresh air through the holes in the socks.

So i tried numbers pairs of socks cheap trekking socks expensive trekking socks average hiking socks i think i have tried about 15 types of socks over the years. and they are all comfortable the first few times but then the break down fast.

Until i encountered the socks i am wearing now all the time

- X-Socks Air Force one (trekking Silver) (for the longer days)

- X-Socks Trekking Light (for the shorter days)

There is a 2 year warranty on these socks so when my toes peek out too soon i just get new socks.
The price is high i think around 20 pounds a pair but i find it money well spent.
They are extremely high tech and won so may awards that i do not think there are many better socks then these available.
